Point Lobos has been called "the crown jewel of the state park system." It has diving unmatched on the California coast, great hiking, perfect picnic spots, vistas and wildlife well-suited for painting or photography, and even an old whaler's cabin. In the winter, migrating gray whales are visible from the shore. This place is huge and we saw only a couple parts of it.

Whaler's Cove
The bones at Whaler's Cove are from whales that washed ashore at Point Lobos and Garrapata. They are remains of a fin, humpback, and two grays.

Photos in today's story were taken by Dr. Ricci Sylla, an ObGyn by profession and avid, snap-happy photographer at all other times. She likes taking pictures mostly of food, but since the recent population explosion in her family, cute nieces and nephews show up much more frequently in her Picasa files. She hearts cake, ice cream, macarons, cotton candy and fancy desserts!
